Celebrating Christmas with Purple Mash

It’s the most wonderful time of the year! Schools across the country are preparing for the Christmas nativity, searching for the missing wise man, wondering how on earth they are going to get the glitter out of the carpet, hoping that the staff room is full of chocolate treats and working out which Christmas card delivered into the post box needs to get to which child.

...But the important thing is not to panic: for all those in-between moments, Purple Mash has a range of Christmas activities to see you through the weeks ahead. Nativity Activities

There are lots of resources on Purple Mash to share the Christian story of Christmas and the Nativity. Children could:

• Make a storyboard of the very first Christmas

• Write a news report about the birth of Jesus
• Create a podcast series or audio drama about the Nativity using 2Cast
• Test their knowledge on the story of Christmas with a ready-made quiz

Back by popular demand, the Purple Mash Advent Calendar will be launching once again on the 1st December! From then onwards, head to the Display Boards tab of the sharing area every day to find a new digital treat.

Christmas Writing Projects

We have a wide range of writing projects that can be used throughout the festive period. Why not get students to design a poster to advertise their upcoming nativity production, write their list to Santa or even send him an email using 2Email.

If you want to link to other curriculum areas, then we have a project and a postcard template looking at the Christmas day Truce in WWI, or you could tell the story of the Christmas journey. There are also a range of poetry projects to choose from – why not try writing a Christmas Poem?

Creative Christmas Arts and Crafts

Not a fan of glitter? No problem! The Purple Mash Christmas crafts only contain ✨ digital glitter ✨ - great for the environment and your classroom carpet! There's a whole range of digital art projects to choose from this festive season:

• Design stockings to hang on the fireplace
• Decorate a Christmas tree decorated tree

Why not try something different this year with projects that children can print out and take home?

They can design their own wrapping paper using the pattern option in 2Paint a Picture - this can then be printed off and used to wrap gifts!

Another fun activity is making 3D items in 2Design and Make - for Christmas, this could be gift boxes, tree decorations or even models of toys.

More festive fun

Just like presents under the tree or turkey on Boxing Day, there's plenty more to discover in the Christmas area of Purple Mash.
